Web Development

Since from the age of 15, I’ve been very keen in web development & design. Despite the slight change in career path for University, I’ve still had the passion & kept up to date with the digital age and developed websites for clients. Something which is on going today. View my Portfolio.

From many that have been in contact with me, there’s a few steps to consider that we can go through together. As a starting step I’ve listed a few below, for you to be thinking about.

Simple step:

- Think of a domain name
-> What you want your users to type into a browser
-> Think of the words that you’d associate with your site. Write them down & see if you can make a connection.
-> Would you want to link the site with your name?
-> What extension you’d like to use? .com, .co.uk, .net, .org

- To secure the domain
-> Using an external domain company like CS New Media as an example, to secure the name that you wish your audience to visit you site with.
-> Once you’ve bought your domain, it’s then time to think of what you’d like to put on it.

Thinking step:

- Hosting – Linux
-> Will you have lots of images & video on your site?
-> How much GB of online storage space will you require?
-> Will users be downloading lots of content from your site?
-> WIll you be using many sub domains?
-> Are you looking to host another site?

- Working out how users would use & navigate around the site.
-> What do you want the first page to tell?
-> Would you like users to find what they need on the first page?
-> Using pages as stepping stones for users to reach their destination?

- What pages are required & what content would be needed.
-> Pages for each item or limiting the number of pages
-> Use of Videos & Images or just text?
-> Lots of scrolling (similar to this page) or limited scrolling?

- How you wish to update it.
-> Requiring you to learn a new language
-> Using a control panel, in a similar format to your email account.

- Keeping it simple or complex.
-> Are the users going to need to use more clicks to find the information, than you think?
-> Drop down menu’s for users that need specific answers.
-> One page tells you all they need to know?

- Flexibility of changing items yourself.
-> Pay someone else (like me) to update it?
-> Save on the cost & update it yourself when you need to, for free?

Brand Identity

- What colour palette are you thinking of?
-> Vibrant colours to attract the eye.
-> Simple & subtle colours to match the atmosphere of your site.
-> Mixing one palette with another.

- Ideas for your Logo/ Brand
-> Using a combination of text and image. Just a simple play of text or using shapes to construct another shape.
-> Associates with your website.
-> Positioning of key items.
-> Looking at previous logos/ brands to bring some ideas together.

If you’re in need of a website created or feel that your current one could do with a new tune-up, I’m more than happy to see if I can help. From a template, to a whole new site, whether it’s from scratch or something that needs a new perspective. I’m sure there’s something that we can sort out, together.
