UKCC L3
I’m focusing on WW Kayak (for those that have forgotten), so if you’re keen to develop those skills further, you’re talking to the right person.
As many of you are aware, there have been a number of recent changes to the coaching scheme, and the requirements to qualify as a BCU UKCC coach are somewhat different to that of the old scheme. This means that as an aspirant BCU UKCC level 3 coach you are required to have at least 2 long term paddle sport students who you can work with as you look forward toward the assessment.
I’m on a quest for a minimum of 2 students, who are looking to develop themselves further in their WW Kayak paddle sport and would look to engage in a coaching relationship for at least a year. Ideally a potential student would have at least 3* WW Kayak, although this is not essential. Potential candidates should be keen to develop themselves in paddle sport, further.
Expect a year of focused paddle sport development in a WW kayak orientated discipline, to assist you in what you wish to achieve. This could be to become a better coach, have greater skills proficiency or simply to get more out of your paddling. This is a real opportunity to propel your paddling forward with some excellent dedicated coaching, at the highest level.
You’d also need to have some kind of monthly contact with the coach (me). This might not always mean direct face to face contact although this would depend on what aspects of your paddle sport development we are working on.
What I need to know now, to get things on track, is what your end goal is likely to be, so I can then see what we need to look at and go from there. Most of you have given a vague indication as to what you want to focus on, but a personal goal will develop things further. I’ve listed a few possible personal goals, that may help you decide what your goals may be or influence some different ones:
* Enter into a freestyle event
* Preparation for a future trip
* Confidence on Whitewater
* A Star award – Leaders (4*/ 5*) or Personal (3*)
* Paddle a certain section of river, confidently
* Confident playing at a weir
* Flatwater playboating
* Whitewater skill set – Boof, Flare, Roll, Backwards & so on…
* Playing on Whitewater
From there, we’ll have a chat. Wether that be in person or through an email, we’ll see what is convenient for both of us and go from there. We’ll sort out a rough plan together and sort some coaching into the swing of things, maybe have a look at the equipment we will need and of course, as mandatory… have some fun.
